Overview
Custom UHMW-PE Gripper Pads for Palletizing Equipment
ZSCNC machines custom UHMW-PE palletizer gripper pads, contact liners and support pads to approved customer drawings for packaging equipment. Our Wuxi base focuses on CNC milling and turning. For batch enquiries, specify the pad part numbers, sample quantity, quantity per release and expected annual demand.
Drawing-Based Custom Manufacturing
Provide the approved contact profile, mounting pattern, pad thickness, edge details and exact material grade. Identify left/right variants, inserts and whether quantities mean individual pads or complete machine sets. Stock availability, insert installation and critical tolerances are confirmed before quotation.
Applications in Packaging Automation
Our packaging machine gripper pads serve as high-wear contact interfaces across multiple automated handling systems:
- Robotic Palletizing Clamps: End-of-arm tooling (EOAT) handling corrugated boxes, totes, and trays.
- Layer Pickers & Depalletizers: High-contact clamping heads lifting full layer configurations.
- Carton Case Grippers: Side-clamp mechanisms transferring cartons through sealing and strapping stations.
- Product Transfer Guides: Wear surfaces guiding unstable or fragile containers into palletizing zones.
Why UHMW-PE Is Used for Palletizer Gripper Pads

Palletizing systems run non-stop, handling thousands of cartons, crates, and containers every shift. We machine our UHMW-PE palletizer gripper pads from virgin and modified grades because UHMW-PE is commonly considered for wear and contact components where low friction, abrasion resistance, toughness, and low moisture absorption are useful. Material suitability should be evaluated according to the actual load, temperature, mating surface, environment, and machine requirements.
Low Friction for Repeated Contact
UHMW-PE can suit sliding contact and wear applications, including guide rails and wear strips. A low-friction surface does not establish adequate gripping force. The equipment designer must validate the selected pad and package combination for the intended handling duty.
Wear Resistance for Repetitive Motion
Wear behavior depends on grade, contact pressure, sliding motion, package surface and contamination. Define the wear surface and replacement limits rather than assuming a fixed service life. Agree trial acceptance before using a new material or contact profile in production.
Impact Resistance in Material Handling
Palletizer grippers experience continuous mechanical shock during pneumatic actuation and sudden payload stops. UHMW-PE is known for good toughness and impact resistance, which can be useful for gripper pads and contact components exposed to repeated mechanical loading. Actual performance depends on material grade, part geometry, load, temperature, and operating conditions.
Low Moisture Absorption
UHMW-PE has low moisture absorption, which can be beneficial in humid industrial environments. However, dimensional behavior should still be evaluated with respect to temperature, mechanical load, material grade, and the requirements of the assembly.
CNC Machining of Custom UHMW-PE Gripper Pads
Workholding, cutter access, heat generation and inspection support are reviewed for the specified geometry. UHMW-PE can deform under load; agree the measurement condition and feasible tolerances before machining.
CNC Milling of Pad Profiles
Supply the approved flat, grooved or contoured profile and identify functional contact areas. Groove pitch, depth and edge radii should be dimensioned where critical. We also review packaging sealing and guide components as separate drawing-based items; their interfaces and quantities must be listed individually.
Mounting and Locating Features
Specify counterbores, countersinks, locating slots, fasteners and any metal inserts. Include insert specification, retention method and installation requirements. The customer design must account for pad loading, thermal movement and the available wear thickness above fastener heads.
Burr and Edge Control
Define allowable edge radii, chamfers and burr condition on contact surfaces. Agree the checking method for thin edges, grooves and recessed features. Cleanliness and packaging requirements must be included in the order scope.
Critical Dimensions for Palletizer Gripper Pads
Precision dimensions ensure our UHMW-PE palletizer gripper pads mount flush and deliver consistent clamping pressure across automated packaging lines. Because UHMW-PE expands and flexes differently than metals, we control key geometric features during CNC machining to prevent misalignment and premature wear.
Pad Thickness and Contact Profile
Define finished thickness, contact contour and allowable variation relative to the mounting face. Highlight the minimum wear thickness and any protected fastener recess. Package marking and holding performance require customer testing at the intended operating conditions.
Mounting-Hole Position
Specify the datum system, hole positions, slot dimensions and counterbore depths. Agree the material and measurement condition for positional checks; installation clearance and thermal movement follow the OEM design.
Flatness and Mating Features
Identify the mating face, support condition and flatness requirement. A flexible pad measured while clamped may differ from the free-state part. Agree inspection support and assembly acceptance before approving the first batch.
Drawing-Specified Tolerances
Tolerances are manufactured according to customer drawings and functional requirements. Because UHMW-PE responds differently from metals during machining and service, tolerance requirements should be evaluated according to part size, geometry, material grade, temperature, and assembly function
Typical Applications of UHMW-PE Gripper Pads
Drawing-based pads may be reviewed for palletizing clamps, support ledges, guides and other packaging handling interfaces. Material and contact geometry must match the actual duty; suitability for a sliding support does not establish suitability for friction-only lifting.
Case and Carton Palletizers
For carton clamps or layer-handling equipment, provide the approved pad location, package surface, load and support arrangement. The OEM validates holding force and package damage limits through its machine assessment and trials. UHMW-PE is not an automatic substitute for rubber or polyurethane gripping surfaces.
Packaging Pick-and-Place Systems
Specify the EOAT interface, pad mass limits, mounting geometry and operating conditions. Where pads mate with packaging mounts and brackets, provide matching revisions and list quantities for each part number.
Product Transfer and Handling Equipment
Sliding facings, pusher pads, guide strips and support inserts should be specified by contact geometry, load and wear limits. Any gripping, vacuum or retaining function requires the appropriate equipment-level validation.
Replacement Wear Components
Provide the approved replacement drawing and material grade. A worn sample can support dimensional review but cannot establish the unworn nominal dimensions or justify a material substitution. Agree the drawing and sample trial before releasing a replacement batch.
UHMW-PE Gripper Pads Manufactured From Customer Drawings
For OEM batch supply or repeat maintenance orders, submit a dimensioned drawing and matching model. Specify the required UHMW-PE stock grade, color and any material documents. Availability and document coverage are confirmed for the order.
